MEMORY ZERO is the first book in the Spook Squad series by Keri Arthur. I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Samantha Ryan, a seasoned State Police officer, is forced to make a split second decision that will change her life forever. Facing the consequences to her actions, she's forced to find her own answers, as there is someone who would rather lock her behind bars. The Spook Squad's Assistant Director, Gabriel Stern know Sam is innocent, but uses her suspension from the police force to find out just what Samantha is, because she moves and heals too fast to be merely human. Together Gabriel and Sam search for answers, each with a different result in mind.

MEMORY ZERO was police procedural, futuristic, urban and paranormal all rolled into one. It is billed as a paranormal romance, but I feel it is more Urban Fantasy. There is the potential for romance, but the focus was on the story. There is something different about Sam and this difference has the attention of several different factions, and her presence will play a roll in an impending war between those factions. This war is expected to result in the inadvertent loss of many human lives. I enjoyed the glimpse into the future. The world was something I could see in MY near future, making it believable. I'm looking forward to the next book, and I know you will too.
